H1N1 Vaccine for Guantanamo detainees
There are currently 900,000 residents in King County Washington who are considered to be “at risk,” and in need of the H1N1 vaccine. Keep in mind, this is not the total population of King County, merely the individuals who are most susceptible due to age and health risk. Unfortunately, the county has only received 85,000 doses of the vaccine. More than 90,000 people will not receive a potentially life-saving vaccine until late December. Of course, there’s nothing to stop this deadline from being pushed back even further, but not everyone will have to wait.
The government is planning on offering the H1N1 vaccine to detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Yes, you read correctly. Many American children with medical conditions will not receive the vaccine for months, but it is being offered to terrorists who want to kill U.S. citizens. » read more

John Boehner’s criticisms fall on deaf ears
In his radio address, Republican Representative John Boehner criticized the Democrat’s health-care reform plan. He rightly points out its high cost, unacceptable government involvement, and potential to actually make things worse. Boehner mentioned Republican ideas that are often discussed, but quickly rejected by the Democrats: Buy insurance accross state lines, allow organizations and business to pool their resources, and enact tort reform.
As someone who is employed by a small business, I can certainly see the value in having the ability to pool with other companies. Many states are dominated by just one or two private insurers, so opening competition would likely reduce costs and increase choices. Of course, the Democrats also agree there is a need to ensure competition. The difference is that Democrats want competition to come from a government option. This would eventually bankrupt private insurers, since they wouldn’t be competing on a level playing field. If this occurred, we would essentially be stuck with an unofficial single-payer system. Interesting way of sneaking it in through the back door, don’t you think? » read more

Fast food calorie counts, but no tort reform
By now, you’ve probably already heard of the 1,990 page health-care reform bill being pushed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her progressive minions. Once Americans have a chance to read through it, I’m sure we’ll find some interesting stuff. I just found an interesting factoid today: Section 2572 will require vending machines and restaurant chains to include calories counts on their menus. Isn’t this a little much?
I’m sure Pelosi and company could easily rationalize this by explaining that informed consumers would buy less unhealthy food if they could actually see how bad it is for their health. This would result in the typical person consuming fewer calories, which could result in less obesity, which could result in fewer medical conditions, which could result in fewer dollars spent on health-care. Got all that? » read more

Barack Obama vs. Fox News
In a perfect world, the media would be 100% unbiased. They would cover every important story appropriately without prejudice and never bury some stories and over-emphasize others. They would approach each topic with indifference, in order to let readers come to their own conclusions. They would exist solely to gather and distribute information without any agenda other than the desire to have an informed citizenry. That should be the goal, but it is far from the reality.
I enjoy watching Fox News, but it certainly isn’t “fair and balanced,” as the network claims. There is certainly a conservative slant that cannot be denied. I hear this mentioned frequently, but what I don’t hear mentioned often is the liberal bias demonstrated by MSNBC. They behave exactly like Fox News. They just do so at the opposite end of the political spectrum. » read more

Sting: Barack Obama ’sent from God’
In a recent interview, singer Sting says Barack Obama is “sent from God.” The strangest part is Sting’s lack of rationale for such a comment. Here’s his best shot: “I can’t think of any be (sic) better qualified because of his background, his education, particularly in regard to Islam.” Let’s take a closer look at this statement.
Barack Obama is definitely well-educated, having received a law degree from Harvard. Although, that doesn’t really set him apart from other Presidents. Bill Clinton also had a law degree and attended Oxford, while George W. Bush received an MBA from Harvard. Next, we have his background. I’m not sure what this is a reference to, so I’ll leave it alone. To be honest, I don’t think Sting knew what he was referring to. Finally, he mentions knowledge/background in regards to Islam. Since when is a background in Islam a qualifier to be President of the United States? » read more

Flag desecration to push health care reform
Below is a video which uses flag desecration to convince people of the importance of health care reform. I guess some people consider this art.

Arnold Schwarzenegger the poet
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke at a democratic gathering recently, and was heckled by the crowd. One notable instance was when Assemblyman Tom Ammiano shouted, “you lie!” Well, it looks like the Governor wasn’t too happy with what transpired at the gathering.
In a veto message to Tom Ammiano, Schwarzenegger decided to get poetic by including an acrostic poem in the body of the letter. As you might know, an acrostic poem uses the first letter from each line to spell a word. Take a look at the message below: » read more

Vacationing at the White House?
Do you need a vacation, but you’re not sure where to go? Do I have the spot for you! For a donation, you can vacation at the White House and receive preference for tours, and briefings with officials. It’s a great deal, but you must act soon, because this opportunity won’t last (hopefully, it will be nonexistent after January 2013).
Didn’t Barack Obama say he was going to bring change? Renting the White House out for campaign donations isn’t a change, Bill Clinton did the same thing when he was President. What’s next, an intern named Monica?

Congress, the NFL, and a lack of priorities
We’re at a point where our country is facing many challenges: The remnants of an economic crisis, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, health-care reform, cap-and-trade legislation, and much more. There’s no doubt that Congress has a full plate. That’s why it’s shocking to find out that they wasted time holding a hearing to discuss professional football. » read more

Mark McGwire’s new job
It looks like Mark McGwire will be the new hitting coach for the St. Louis Cardinals. This is a great opportunity. It’s too bad Mark McGwire doesn’t deserve it.
If you watched Mark McGwire testify before Congress, any doubts you might have had about potential steroid use were confirmed. He didn’t deny using illegal substances, and from what I’ve seen, didn’t refute the charges. So, what do you do with someone who cheated and made a mockery of baseball’s most sacred statistics? Give him a job, of course! » read more

Health insurance is not a right
As the country continues to watch the health-care debate, it’s common to hear liberals talk about the right to “quality, affordable health-care”. I agree with them on the importance of having health insurance, and the need for affordability. What I disagree with is the mechanisms being proposed for obtaining coverage and making it “affordable”. » read more

Lower the volume so the terrorists can sleep?
As you may recall, liberals were appalled that a few terorists had to endure waterboarding. To them, pouring water over the face of a terrorist was the epitome of evil. Sure, some of these people were responsible for the death of more than 3,000 American on 9/11 and would love to kill more Americans, and the information gained through these interrogation techniques also may have saved American lives. Of course, none of this matters. All that did matter was that we were
making murderers uncomfortable. » read more
