Barack Obama decides to allow drilling
Barack Obama has decided to lift restrictions on drilling on the Alaskan coast and the Atlantic coast. This is an excellent decision, but I’m hoping it is only a first step, rather than the whole plan. I’d also like to see this linked to a broader national security strategy.
Ideally, the President would have allowed drilling along the entire Atlantic and Pacific coasts, Alaska, and the Gulf of Mexico. Some would agree, since it would possibly reduce prices, since the supply would increase, while environmentalists would be strongly opposed. Of course, neither of these considerations is as important as national security. After all, what good is a strong economy or clean environment if your life is threatened by foreign enemies?
The United States needs to increase domestic oil production, then reduce foreign imports by an equal amount. The less oil that is imported into the United States, the less dependent we are on foreign countries. It’s hard to be secure when you depend on potential enemies for a resource that is a large part of your economy. It seems like a common sense idea to me, so why aren’t more people pushing for this change?

One more reason to support J.D. Hayworth over John McCain
Senator John McCain is facing a tough primary this year. Hopefully, he will lose to J.D. Hayworth, who is more concerned with doing the right thing, than trying to be everything to everyone. The latest example of McCain’s lack of political courage is his reluctance to take a stand on a bill in Arizona which would make it a crime for illegal aliens to be present in the state, and for people to transport or employ them. J.D. Hayworth has come out in favor of the bill.
John McCain loves to point out the time he spent fighting for the United States, along with his time as a P.O.W. That’s why I find it shocking that he would refuse comment on the bill and brush off questions about his opinion by saying it’s a “state issue.” He’s certainly correct, but as a long-time citizen of that state, he has every right to comment on it, and the voters have every right to know where he stands on the issue. Of course, I can probably guess where he stands.
We’re talking about a man who teamed up with the Bush administration on a bill that would have provided a path to citizenship granted amnesty to millions of people who ignored our laws and deserve to be categorized as criminals. John McCain deserves to lose in 2010, and I’m confident he will.

Arizona is moving in the right direction on illegal immigration
Legislators in Arizona are working on a bill which would make it a crime for illegal aliens to be present in the state. It would also make it a crime to transport or employ an illegal alien. Similar bills have passed the legislature before, but were vetoed by former Governor Janet Napolitano, who obviously has an affinity for those who disregard our laws.
This is exactly the type of law more states should enact. Bleeding heart liberals who look at the United States as the world’s homeless shelter seem to ignore the convenient fact that illegal aliens are breaking federal laws and trespassing. In the words of Sen. Russell Pearce:
“When you come to America you must have a permission slip, period,” said state Sen. Russell Pearce, the Mesa Republican who sponsored the bill. “You can’t break into my country, just like you can’t break into my house.”
Well said Senator.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease: Barack Obama attempts to prevent foreclosures
The Obama administration appears poised to “help” the housing market, while taking us deeper into the downward spiral known as socialism. The plan to help borrowers includes four components:
1. Offer lender incentives to reduce the borrower’s mortgage balance.
2. Double the incentives given to lenders to modify second mortgages, such as piggyback loans.
3. Offer incentives to lenders who allow owners to sell their home through a short-sale, rather than foreclosing.
4. Have the FHA help underwater borrowers by taking up to 10% of their mortgage balance.
At this point, you might be in shock. When you purchased your home, you might have actually preferred another property but didn’t buy it because the payments would have been a stretch. You saved for a down payment, have a good credit history, and wanted to make sure you could handle your mortgage. You’re responsible, and you tried your best to do things the right way. » read more

Have you tried to resuscitate a dead animal lately?
I started this blog so I could share my opinions, inform people, and start some interesting discussions. Topics such as Obamacare, illegal immigration, and Cap-and-Trade are frequent topics. They are certainly worthy of discussion, but I realize that maybe I should broaden the scope of the blog and try to help my dedicated readers. Let’s think of it as a public service announcement.
My first attempt to save you from yourself was inspired by reading about the dangers of excessive drinking. We often hear about drunk driving and health problems, but how often do you read something like this:
State police have charged a central Pennsylvania man with public drunkenness after he was seen giving mouth-to-mouth “resuscitation” to a long-dead opossum along a highway. » read more

James Clyburn needs to focus on the real terrorists
Representative James Clyburn feels that Republicans are “aiding and abetting” terrorism. How are Republicans doing this? By criticizing Barack Obama! According to James Clyburn, criticizing the President and offering an opinion to the American people is considered “aiding and abetting terrorism.” In Mr Clyburn’s world, it is better to just sit quietly and allow the country’s leader to run roughshod over the nation. A totalitarian regime headed by Barack Obama might be Mr. Clyburn’s idea of a utopia, but it certainly isn’t mine. » read more

Fidel Castro likes Obamacare
Fidel Castro thinks Barack Obama did a great job bringing Obamacare to the masses. My only question is when Hugo Chavez will release a statement of support and admiration for Barack Hussein Obama’s latest government power grab.
During the election, many of the Obamessiah’s followers would quickly disagree with any criticism of his socialist tendencies. After taking over banks, insurance companies, car companies, the health care industry, and student loans in just 14 months, is there any doubt what this man is up to? I’m waiting for him to take over a news organization next. He can have his own state run media outlet, just like Hugo Chavez. Hey, do you think MSNBC is available?

Obamacare: Illegal aliens won’t receive health care…yet
Have you read the 3,000 page health care bill yet? I haven’t read the entire thing, but I have read a portion of the bill. I’m glad to say that Obamacare will not allow illegal aliens to receive health care or purchase insurance through exchanges. Of course, the fight isn’t over.
The next step is to keep our eyes on the immigration reform bill. Obamacare won’t provide health insurance for illegal aliens, but it will provide help for legal immigrants. If the 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens in the United States receive amnesty, won’t that make them legal? Won’t they then be eligible for subsidized health care? It certainly looks that way to me. » read more

Joe Biden: “This is a big bleepin’ deal”

Alcee Hastings on House rules: “We make them up as we go along”
Representative Alcee Hastings admitted that Congress is ”making up the rules as we go along.” His comment illustrates how many of our Representatives feel they are above the rules, and lack respect for the Constitution. Floridians who voted for this man should be ashamed of themselves.

Tiger Woods talks to ESPN
Tiger Woods spoke to ESPN today, and the five minute interview was rather unspectacular. I was personally annoyed by something I found disingenuous: His desire to apologize to everyone for his undisclosed problem. I know it sounds good, but it’s complete nonsense to think he owes anyone other than his wife Elin Nordegren an apology. But then again, I’m biased. For the life of me, I don’t know how someone who seemingly has everything can risk it for so little. Come on, he’s married to her: » read more

ACORN facing bankruptcy

James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles posed as a pimp and a prostitute to expose ACORN
ACORN, those experts on setting up brothels, are close to filing for bankruptcy. It’s hard to believe that an organization that has been accused of questionable tactics for so many years was finally brought down by two relatively unknown journalists posing as a pimp and a prostitute. To James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles: Job well done!
Don’t mind me, but I feel compelled to include some additional photos of Hannah Giles. I’m a big fan of her work.

Thank you, Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Arizona Sherrif Joe Arpaio
We need more people like Sheriff Joe Arpaio:
PHOENIX – The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona has launched a two-day, countywide crime and immigration sweep that authorities say will focus on drop houses, drug violators and human smuggling vehicles.
Four hundred deputies and volunteer posse members are taking part in the patrols. The sweep, which began Thursday, is Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s 14th since early 2008.
During the sweeps, deputies flood an area of a city — in some cases heavily Latino areas — to seek out traffic violators and arrest other alleged lawbreakers. » read more

Catholic bishops are right on abortion, wrong on illegal immigration
It isn’t often I agree with Catholic bishops, but we’re on the same page when it comes to the health care bill…sort of. In a letter to Congress, the bishops implored representatives not to support a bill that they say will allow public money to be used for abortions.
I’m strongly pro-choice, but I don’t want a dime of taxpayer money spent on abortions, except in the cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. If one of these conditions doesn’t exist, then the abortion is an elective procedure used to remedy irresponsible behavior. What’s next, allowing people to get taxpayer funded liposuction because because they’re too lazy to exercise and eat right? » read more

When will Pope Benedict take responsibility for his actions?

Pope Benedict criticized Irish Bishops for doing wha the Vatican expected of them
Pope Benedict criticized Irish bishops for “grave errors in judgment,” which led to many children being abused by priests and nuns. Catholic Bishops in Ireland deserve the criticism, since they were complacent while priests and other members of the Church harmed young parishioners. Unfortunately, Pope Benedict glossed over the major cause: The Vatican.
The abuse allegations in Ireland are not confined to that country alone. Allegations came to light in the United States several years ago, along with Germany and many other European nations. It’s also likely that the number of allegations will increase as victims gain the courage to face the Catholic Church and their abusers. » read more

Barack Obama’s approval rating in limbo: How low will it go?

How low will Barack Obama's approval rating go?
The latest Rasmussen Poll finds that 23% of Americans strongly approve of the job Barack Obama is doing, while 44% strongly disapprove. Rasmussen also points out that the President’s approval rating drops when he pushes the health care bill. I’m not an expert, but do you think that means that most people are against the current health care reform bill? Not surprisingly, Rasmussen also found that 50% of Americans are less likely to vote for a Congressmen who supports health care reform.
It looks like conservatives won’t have to worry about throwing out the leftists in 2010 and 2012. They’re going to take care of that all by themselves. I just hope they don’t wreck the place too much before then.

So much for deficit reduction: CBO says health care bill will be $59 billion in the red
Do you remember how Democrats (rightly) criticized Republicans for passing a prescription drug plan that added to the deficit? Democrats criticized their irresponsible behavior and vowed that health care reform would not only be deficit neutral, but that it would also reduce the deficit. Well, now it looks like the Democrats are being exposed as the hypocrites they are. The Congressional Budget Office found that the proposal would be $59 billion in the red. I can’t to hear how Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama will spin this latest piece of news.

Article 1, Section 7: Can Nancy Pelosi read?

Does Nancy Pelosi understand the Constitution?
If you’ve been following the health care debacle in Washington, then you’ve probably heard about how Nancy Pelosi and her henchmen are planning on using “deem and pass” to ram through health care reform. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this procedure, it will allow the House to pass the Senate version of the bill without actually having to vote on it. What if they don’t have the votes? No problem! Of course, this method could very well be ruled unconstitutional. Here’s Article 1, Section 7 of the United States Constitution:
All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.
Every Bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a Law, be presented to the President of the United States: If he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his Objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the Objections at large on their Journal, and proceed to reconsider it. If after such Reconsideration two thirds of that House shall agree to pass the Bill, it shall be sent, together with the Objections, to the other House, by which it shall likewise be reconsidered, and if approved by two thirds of that House, it shall become a Law. But in all such Cases the Votes of both Houses shall be determined by yeas and Nays, and the Names of the Persons voting for and against the Bill shall be entered on the Journal of each House respectively. If any Bill shall not be returned by the President within ten Days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him, the Same shall be a Law, in like Manner as if he had signed it, unless the Congress by their Adjournment prevent its Return, in which Case it shall not be a Law. » read more

How do you feel about combining comprehensive immigration reform and an economic stimulus bill?
If you read this blog regularly, you might remember how I critiqued the immigration bill being sponsored by Lindsey Graham and Chuck Schumer. As you might recall, I didn’t like it, and I suggested some issues that need to be addressed in an effective immigration bill. Unfortunately, I don’t think my ideas went far enough.
The exact number of illegal aliens in the United States isn’t known, but I’ve heard estimates ranging between 12 million and 20 million. I also read that illegal aliens have around 8 million jobs. This made me think: What if we could combine a second economic stimulus that would put people to work, while addressing immigration reform? » read more

Impeach Barack Obama?

Barack Obama as The Joker. I'm not laughing.
Washington Times writer Jeffrey Kuhner has an interesting column, where he argues that Barack Obama and his gang of leftists should be impeached. Here is an excerpt from Mr. Kuhner’s column:
Mr. Obama is willing to devour his presidency, his party’s congressional majority and – most disturbing – our democratic institutional safeguards to enact it. He is a reckless ideologue who is willing to sacrifice the country’s stability in pursuit of a socialist utopia.
The Slaughter Solution is a poisoned chalice. By drinking from it, the Democrats would not only commit political suicide. They would guarantee that any bill signed by Mr. Obama is illegitimate, illegal and blatantly unconstitutional. It would be worse than a strategic blunder; it would be a crime – a moral crime against the American people and a direct abrogation of the Constitution and our very democracy. » read more
