Wisconsin: Labor that doesn’t labor

Many of those who are protesting Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s attempt to reign in state spending should be ashamed of themselves.

So many teachers have called in sick, that several cities and towns had to close their schools. Since there are tens of thousands of union protesters complaining outside the state capital, it’s pretty easy to figure out where those teachers are spending their days. Ideally, these teachers would be fired. Of course, they won’t be. As a matter of fact, there’s allegedly a doctor outside the capital giving teacher’s notes to excuse them for being out of work due to their “illnesses.” » read more

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is on the right path

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker should be commended for helping usher sweeping change in his state. Legislation supported by Walker would strip many collective bargaining rights from nearly all public unions. The legislation would save the state money and jobs in the long-run, but you would never know it from the reaction.

Union members are saying the Governor should be recalled, and so many teachers have called in sick, that some schools needed to be shut down. For them, it looks like the children’s well-being isn’t their top priority. As for these teachers, maybe some of them need to go back to school. Taking a logic class might be helpful. » read more

Silvio Berlusconi takes a page out of the Bill Clinton Playbook

Silvio Berlusconi

Silvio Berlusconi

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is facing several charges, and potentially, lots of jail time. The most scandalous was an allegation that he hired a 17 year old prostitute named Ruby. Both deny the charge, but today, a judge felt there was enough evidence to indict him.

I had a flashback when Berlusconi denied all the allegations and blamed it on a politically motivated left-wing conspiracy. Change the wing, and it’s right out of the Bill Clinton handbook. Of course, Bill Clinton looks like a Boy Scout compared to Berlusconi. » read more

Lara Logan attack makes you question media coverage

Lara Logan of CBS News

Lara Logan, of CBS News, was recently attacked in Egypt's Tahir Square

During celebrations in Tahrir Square in Egypt this past Friday, CBS News correspondent Lara Logan was brutally attacked. According to CBS News:

On Friday, Feb. 11, the day Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS chief foreign correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a “60 Minutes” story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.

In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.

There will be no further comment from CBS News and correspondent Logan and her family respectfully request privacy at this time.

With global warming, is heating assistance necessary?

Barack Obama

Barack Obama

Democrats are criticizing Barack Obama for cutting money for heating assistance in half. In the President’s defense, is this money really necessary? After all, according to them, global warming is gradually raising the temperature of the Earth. If this trend continues, as many liberals say it will, we would hardly need to have the same level of heating assistance.

Of course, many liberals would rightly point out that we have faced one of the coldest winters in recent history. I wouldn’t disagree with this point, but it is going to warm up a lot, isn’t it?

Tackling the budget: Democrats and Republicans need to go further

Republican Elephant and Democrat Donkey

Republicans Vs Democrats

Barack Obama is being criticized for a budget proposal that some see as being harsh toward low and middle-income Americans. Critics say it cuts too much from heating assistance, summer Pell Grants, and community block grants. Count me as a critic, but not because he cuts too much, but because he doesn’t cut enough.

I’m one of those people who believe we could completely eliminate the budget deficit in a year or two, not five, ten, or twenty. Of course, that would require massive cuts that go far beyond what President Obama, and even the G.O.P. are proposing. In addition to these cuts, the Bush tax cuts should have been allowed to lapse, at least temporarily. Ladies and gentlemen, we are drowning in debt, and the solutions aren’t pleasant. » read more

Senator Joe Arpaio?

Maricopa COunty Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Maricopa COunty Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Senator Joe Arpaio? It has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? Following the news that Arizona Senator John Kyl is stepping down, a poll was conducted to find out who has the most support. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio led with 21%, followed by Rep. Jeff Flake with 16.8%, and J.D. Hayworth with 16.6%.

This poll should be taken with a grain of salt, since John Kyl just announced that he isn’t running for re-election, the election is almost 2 years away, and there were a large number of undecided voters. Still, it has to be encouraging for Joe Arpaio to see his name at the top of the list. » read more

Good news: Sara Palin faces an uphill battle

Sarah Palin

Can Sarah Palin win the Presidency? No.

Here’s some good news for those of you getting an early start on the 2012 Presidential Election: Sarah Palin is facing an uphill battle.

I was surprised to read how unpopular Sarah Palin is with Republicans in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, I’m actually quite pleased with this development, since I believe that a Palin nomination would guarantee Barack Obama a second term. » read more

Aren’t there better options than Perez Hilton?

I just visited Alexa.com to check out the ranking for PerezHilton.com. For those of you who don’t know, Alexa provides traffic rankings for websites. Think of it as Neilsen ratings for websites. Anyway, after checking the rankings, I saw some disappointing statistics. Out of the tens of millions of websites in the world, PerezHilton.com is ranked 784th in the world, and 264th in the United States.

Why do I bring this up? Last night, Serene Branson of CBS2 was reporting live from the Grammy Awards, when her speech suddenly started to deteriorate and turn to gibberish. Some have speculated that her speech problems looked like the symptoms of a stroke. » read more

Esperanza Spalding and Lady Gaga: What’s right and wrong about music

Esperanza Spalding with bass

Esperanza Splading won the Grammy for best new artist

What does a pop star do to distract people from the fact that their music is bland an uninspiring? They use gimmicks, stunts, props, and other nonsense to distract the sheep in the audience. If you need an example, look no further than Lady Gaga’s arrival and performance at the Grammy Awards.

Lady Gaga arrived in a translucent egg that was carried by four men. One of her assistants claimed she was “in an embryonic stage and won’t be born until the performance.” If you think I’m wrong, think about it: What is everyone talking about? Are they talking about her performance, or the the egg womb and the prosthetic shoulders? I rest my case. » read more

Ron Paul 11, Donald Trump 0

Donald Trump having another bad hair day

Donald Trump

If you’re keeping score at home between Donald Trump and Ron Paul, the Congressmen from Texas is ahead 11-0, as in the number of elections he has won in his political career. Donald Trump said Ron Paul could never get elected President, but Paul makes a convincing point:

“I was elected 11 times and somebody said, ‘Well, how many times has Donald Trump been elected?” Paul said Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “Does he have really the right to criticize others and say they are unelect[able]?”

Nicolas Sarkozy is right about multiculturalism

French Presiden Nicolas Sarkozy

French Presiden Nicolas Sarkozy

“It’s a failure,” Sarkozy said of multiculturalism. “The truth is that, in all our democracies, we’ve been too concerned about the identity of the new arrivals and not enough about the identity of the country receiving them.”

I couldn’t agree more. Think about it: By allowing, and often encouraging immigrants to keep their own culture at the cost of assimilation, aren’t we weakening our national identity? If millions of immigrants take up residence in a country, consider themselves to be separate, and raise children to believe the same, how will that country survive? How will its people exist without a shared identity? » read more

Bill Maher doesn’t believe Barack Obama is a Christian

Barack Obama in church

Is Barack Obama a Christian? Should it matter?

Comedian Bill Maher doesn’t believe Barack Obama is a Christian, and I must say, I agree.

Unlike many, I don’t believe he is a closet Muslim. Instead, I see him as someone who isn’t religious and clings to Christianity because it’s politically expedient. If I’m correct about this, the fact that he isn’t really a Christian doesn’t bother me. What would bother me is an exaggeration of his beliefs to gain election. » read more

Ron Paul wins CPAC straw poll

Ron Paul won the CPAC straw poll. So, what does that mean?

In the grand scheme of things, it’s probably not a big deal, since it’s an opinion poll of conservative activists. Of course, it does get Ron Paul mentioned on newscasts, blogs, websites, and newspapers all over the country. If he can keep it up, it could create a buzz that slowly build into the primary/caucus season. Of course, I’m hoping that’s not necessary. » read more

Mitt Romney is throwing stones from his glass house

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney criticizes Obamacare, but loves Romney care

I find former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney to be an insincere, disingenuous person who will say anything to get elected. Basically, I don’t trust a word he says. With that said, I was surprised to see this quote from Romney:

While other possible candidates talked about repealing healthcare in their CPAC speeches, Romney barely mentioned it.

It came up when he accused Obama and “liberals” of looking to “European solutions” to the economic crisis by increasing government spending and moving for a “takeover” of healthcare.

“It does not work there and it will never work here,” Romney said. “We are an exceptional land.”

Donald Trump is wrong about Ron Paul

Texas Congressman Ron Paul

Texas Congressman Ron Paul

Are there a lot of empty rooms at the Trump Taj Mahal? Are the ratings for The Apprentice down? Something has to be going on, because Donald Trump is once again talking about running for President.

Trump gave a speech at CPAC in Washington, D.C., where he began by telling the crowd how much he loves what he does, then mentioned that he has a club 15 minutes away. Once the boos began, the egomaniac declared that Ron Paul couldn’t be elected (of course, I’m sure Trump believes he could be). » read more

Honoring a Ku Klux Klan leader

Confederate General Nathaniel Bedford Forrest

Confederate General Nathaniel Bedford Forrest

There is currently a proposal in Mississippi to honor Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest on a new license plate. Supporters feel it is well-deserved, since General Forrest was considered a tactical genius. His attributes haven’t been disputed, but the fact that he was an early leader of the Ku Klux Klan has caused many to raise eyebrows. » read more

Elderly woman foils jewelry store robbery

An elderly woman prevented 6 men from using sledge hammers to smash a jewelry store window and rob them. Once she drew attention to what was happening, other bystanders jumped in and helped apprehend four of the six men. If more people acted like her, the streets would be safer, and we would have less crime.

Lindsay Lohan needs to do time if found guilty

Lindsay Lohan mugshot

Lindsay Lohan mugshot after being arrested

Lindsay Lohan has been charged with grand theft for allegedly stealing a $2,500 necklace from a jewelry store. I mention this because if she is found guilty, she needs to do some serious time. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of seeing celebrities skate by with a slap on the wrist. A couple of days in the county jail aren’t enough.

Now for some pictures of Lindsay Lohan before she began engaging in criminal activities and self-destructive behavior:
