More U.S. deaths, and still no comment
It has been nearly a week since protests over Koran burnings began in Afghanistan. Barack Obama quickly apologized to Afghan President Hamid Karzai, but to this point, there have been no apologies for the 6 U.S. soldiers who were shot, two killed, by an Afghan soldier. Not surprisingly, there also hasn’t been any apology for the two U.S. officers who were murdered by a member of the Afghan security force.
To be honest, I don’t care about an apology. This entire episode should provide definitive proof to everyone that we don’t belong in Afghanistan. We are losing American lives defending a savage people who deserve nothing from us. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration doesn’t get it.

Rick Santorum’s utopian theocracy
I dislike Rick Santorum for several reasons, but the biggest is how he forces me to side with Democrats. Santorum is so confused, that his ridiculous comments can’t go unchallenged.
In his latest rant to be unearthed, he criticizes John F. Kennedy’s 1960 speech about religion to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association. “Earlier in my political career, I had the opportunity to read the speech, and I almost threw up. You should read the speech,” said Santorum
In a recent interview with George Stephanopoulos, Santorum adds:

Sacha Baron Cohen will get the last laugh
Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen was banned from the Academy Awards when he mentioned he might arrive dressed as his character from “The Dictator.” The movie seems like it will be funny, and is described as a “heroic story of a Middle Eastern dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy never comes to the country he so lovingly oppressed”.
I guess the Academy didn’t want to offend Middle Eastern dictators

Barack Obama’s disgraceful apology
Just when you think Barack Obama can’t sink any lower, he manages to break another depth record. This time, he apologized to Afghanistan’s President, Hamid Karzai, for accidentally disposing of copies of the Koran in an inappropriate fashion. This action led to massive protests in Afghanistan, along with the Taliban calling for death to America (what a shock!).
On any day, the apology would bother me, but on this day in particular, it angers me. An Afghan soldier shot six American soldiers, killing two. At this time, I haven’t heard about any apologies from Hamid Karzai, yet we have an apology from Barack Obama for throwing books away incorrectly, and in the past, an apology from George W. Bush for a sniper who shot a Koran. Maybe it’s me, but I think double murder of two soldiers is a serious matter.

The growing dependent class
Nearly half (49.5%) of Americans don’t pay income tax. At first, you might be appalled, but let’s not lose sight of the true problem. The bottom 50% pay no income tax, but considering that I don’t believe anyone should be paying an income tax, that doesn’t concern me. What I do find troubling is the amount of government dependence in the bottom 50%.
In 1984, just just 14.8% of Americans didn’t pay income taxes. In the past 28 years, this has resulted in increasing redistribution of wealth and dependence on government. This group isn’t paying taxes, many are dependent on government, and in many cases, being rewarded for bad decisions.
The authors of the study added this quote, which should make us all think about the road to ruin we are heading down.
“This trend should concern everyone who supports America’s republican form of government,” Beach and Tyrrell wrote. “If the citizens’ representatives are elected by an increasing percentage of voters who pay no income tax, how long will it be before these representatives respond more to demands for yet more entitlements and subsidies from non-payers than to the pleas of taxpayers to exercise greater spending prudence?”

There should be only one Presidential candidate for the Tea Party
There has been a lot of talk about the Tea Party, and what effect its members will have on the Presidential race. So far, it has been much ado about nothing.
All of the candidates have attempted to court the Tea Party to some extent, but it should be a wasted of time, since only one candidate represents the group’s alleged philosophy. If you support a balanced budget, then how can you vote for someone who voted to raise the debt ceiling several times, and is a big spender? Santorum is bad, but Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich are no better.
If one of them is elected President, I have no doubt they will spend less than Barack Obama. Unfortunately, the cuts proposed by them are miniscule, and would do little to reduce the deficit, let alone the National Debt. If you don’t believe me, check out the size of the deficit, then read their plans. Are they really going to right America’s ship?

Ron Paul calls Rick Santorum a “Fake” fiscal conservative
In his newest ad, Presidential candidate Ron Paul takes aim at Rick Santorum for being a “fake” fiscal conservative. I wonder how Santorum would defend this record of big-spending.

The reverend Rick Santorum fights Satan
I just read this disturbing quote from Presidential candidate Rick Santorum on the Drudge Report:
“Satan has his sights on the United States of America!” Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum has declared.
“Satan is attacking the great institutions of America, using those great vices of pride, vanity, and sensuality as the root to attack all of the strong plants that has so deeply rooted in the American tradition.”

The former senator from Pennsylvania warned in 2008 how politics and government are falling to Satan.

A few thoughts on Jeremy Lin
I’m not much of a sports fan, and I haven’t followed basketball for quite some time. A few weeks ago, I started hearing about a player for the New York Kicks named Jeremy Lin. Even then, I just heard blurbs, and didn’t read much further. I just didn’t care.
If I had told you that I didn’t notice he was Asian, I’d be lying. As a matter or fact, it was mentioned in a few stories, since there really haven’t been many high-profile Asian players in the NBA.
This week, the Jeremy Lin story took a turn in another direction. Rather than focus on athletic accomplishments, his story has been hijacked by perceived racism and hypocrisy.

Kurt Cobain’s 45th birthday
If Kurt Cobain were still alive, he would be celebrating his 45th birthday today. It’s hard to believe Cobain has been gone for nearly 18 years. It’s even harder to believe that Nirvana’s time in the spotlight lasted only a few years before his demise. His life was short, but his impact on music will last forever.

The words of Rick Santorum
I was recently reading Rick Santorum’s page on Wikipedia. After reading it, it’s hard to believe he would have a chance in the general election. Here are some quotes I found in his Wikipedia entry:
“All of us have heard people say, ‘I privately am against abortion, homosexual marriage, stem cell research, cloning. But who am I to decide that it’s not right for somebody else?’ It sounds good, but it is the corruption of freedom of conscience.”
In reference to contraception: “a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be.”

A brokered GOP convention is a real possibility
The GOP nomination is still very much up for grabs, and its fluidity seems to change the frontrunners on a monthly basis. While Mitt Romney is usually considered the favorite, it appears that a sizable majority of Republicans are looking for anyone but Romney. The pattern is to elevate a monthly favorite, then watch them collapse once the media picks them apart. To date, this has been the pattern for Michelle Bachmann, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Santorum.
With more than half the original field gone, and several primaries behind us, it looks like Romney is in real trouble. As other candidates have dropped out, there are fewer choices for their supporters, increasing each piece of the electoral pie for the remaining candidates.

Rick Santorum’s foreign car
Rick Santorum wants people to support American manufacturers, yet he drove an Audi. Santorum is catching some criticism for that decision, but I think it’s unfounded. After all the taxpayer-funded giveaways the auto industry received, they don’t deserve any special consideration.

Maya Angelou’s ‘remarkable’ mistake
In an interview with the Guardian, poet Maya Angelou recently discussed President Barack Obama:
“I think he has done a remarkable job, knowing how much he has been opposed,” she says. “Every suggestion he makes, the Republicans en masse fight against him or don’t vote at all.” It’s about him being a Democrat and being the first black president, she says.
Remarkable? Really? There are lots of adjectives I could use to describe Barack Obama’s performance, but “remarkable” isn’t one of them. This is a man who is challenging Jimmy Carter for the title of worst President in history.

A debt limit fight is on the horizon
It looks like we might will be heading toward another fight over the debt limit. According to Senator Rob Portman, the current limit will likely be reached before Election Day, making it a big topic of debates and news coverage.
Here’s a preview of what we have to expect, courtesy of Senator Portman:
“Following the contentious debt ceiling last August, President Obama promised that he would take action to address the country’s fiscal crisis. He has failed to do that,” Portman said. “In fact, his new budget increases spending and projects that Washington will be hitting the debt ceiling again in mid-October – burning through a $2.1 trillion debt limit increase in just over 14 months.”

Chris Christie’s poor decision
Phyllis McGeath’s son Phillip, who was a Marine, was killed in Afghanistan four weeks ago. In order to honor him, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie ordered flags to be flown at half-staff. Recently, Christie also ordered flags to be flown at half-staff for pop singer Whitney Houston. The same honor for a Marine killed in the line of duty while serving his country, and a washed-up, drug-addicted pop singer. Something’s wrong here.
Ms. McGeath was understandably upset by the similar honor:
“Nothing against Ms. Houston because she was a beautiful singer and I was a fan for years,” McGeath said.
But, “It was like putting them on the same level. And I know how my son lived. And I know through the media how Ms. Houston lived,” she said

Rick Santorum: Stop the sex
When it comes to abortion, I’m pro-choice, but I can see where those that are pro-life are coming from. For some issues, it’s hard to understand the other side’s viewpoint, and quite frankly, I think they’re a bit confused. Those who oppose birth control fit this description.
In the video, Republican nominee Rick Santorum discusses the dangers of contraception, and how these methods have harmed the country. If you’re one of the people who believe sex is inherently wrong, and whose only purpose is for procreation, then you must think Rick Santorum is onto something. Those who share this belief probably also tend to be pro-life. If that’s the case, it raises an interesting question: If more people used birth control, wouldn’t there be fewer abortions? Of course there would.

Who’s the demon?
Remember how Democrats were criticizing Republicans for inflammatory rhetoric after Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot? How about all the times top Democrats made it seem like Republicans weren’t ready to compromise? To hear them tell it, Democrats are above the fray, while those allegedly unreasonable Republicans were impossible to deal with.
Well, if you’ve been taking sips of the liberal Kool Aid between the times your head was in the sand, you’ll see that both parties contribute to the animosity in Washington. How can you work with, or take seriously, someone who calls you a demon? Is it really that hard to maintain a collegial relationship?

Megadeth lead singer Dave Mustaine endorses Rick Santorum
Megadeth lead singer and guitarist Dave Mustaine has announced his support for Republican Rick Santorum. According to Mustaine, “I think Santorum has some presidential qualities, and I’m hoping that if it does come down to it, we’ll see a Republican in the White House… and that it’s Rick Santorum.”
I do agree that Santorum is a better choice than Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich, who Mustaine referred to as “an angry little man.” Of course, being the better candidate doesn’t mean much when you’re being compared to Romney or Gingrich. You’d have to be pretty bad to be worse.
