Sacha Baron Cohen will get the last laugh
Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen was banned from the Academy Awards when he mentioned he might arrive dressed as his character from “The Dictator.” The movie seems like it will be funny, and is described as a “heroic story of a Middle Eastern dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy never comes to the country he so lovingly oppressed”.
I guess the Academy didn’t want to offend Middle Eastern dictators

Kurt Cobain’s 45th birthday
If Kurt Cobain were still alive, he would be celebrating his 45th birthday today. It’s hard to believe Cobain has been gone for nearly 18 years. It’s even harder to believe that Nirvana’s time in the spotlight lasted only a few years before his demise. His life was short, but his impact on music will last forever.

Chris Christie’s poor decision
Phyllis McGeath’s son Phillip, who was a Marine, was killed in Afghanistan four weeks ago. In order to honor him, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie ordered flags to be flown at half-staff. Recently, Christie also ordered flags to be flown at half-staff for pop singer Whitney Houston. The same honor for a Marine killed in the line of duty while serving his country, and a washed-up, drug-addicted pop singer. Something’s wrong here.
Ms. McGeath was understandably upset by the similar honor:
“Nothing against Ms. Houston because she was a beautiful singer and I was a fan for years,” McGeath said.
But, “It was like putting them on the same level. And I know how my son lived. And I know through the media how Ms. Houston lived,” she said

Megadeth lead singer Dave Mustaine endorses Rick Santorum
Megadeth lead singer and guitarist Dave Mustaine has announced his support for Republican Rick Santorum. According to Mustaine, “I think Santorum has some presidential qualities, and I’m hoping that if it does come down to it, we’ll see a Republican in the White House… and that it’s Rick Santorum.”
I do agree that Santorum is a better choice than Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich, who Mustaine referred to as “an angry little man.” Of course, being the better candidate doesn’t mean much when you’re being compared to Romney or Gingrich. You’d have to be pretty bad to be worse.

SI cover model Kate Upton has political ties
There are so many important things happening in the world, but today I decided to write about something that is completely meaningless and unimportant. Some would argue that I do this frequently, but i digress.
For those of you who enjoy perusing the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, and follow politics, you might be surprised to find out that there is a connection between the two. Michigan Rep. Fred Upton’s niece Kate Upton is featured on the cover of the 2012 issue.

A great example of Grammy Awards nonsense
I’m an atheist, but the picture above irks me for a few reasons.
First, it’s an example of just how low pop music has gone. “Musicians” need to pull stunts like this to get attention from reporters, photographers, and interviewers, because their talent sure isn’t going to get them noticed. What’s the matter? Wouldn’t Lady Gaga let her use her cocoon or meat suit?
Second, notice how certain religions seem to be off limits to jokes and other criticism, yet Catholicism and Christianity in general seem to be great targets to poke fun at. Can we have some consistency? » read more

Why wait for death to enjoy music?
Whitney Houston passed away yesterday at the age of 48, and almost instantaneously, there was a huge spike in her music sales. Why? Her last albums didn’t sell nearly as well as her music from the 80′s and 90′s, yet now we’re seeing all of her “fans” purchasing her music.
I wasn’t a Whitney Houston fan, but for those of you who are, I’m sorry one of your favorites has passed. For those of you who need death and constant media exposure to listen to someone’s music, you’re pathetic. Why not try listening to these individuals when they’re alive?

Samuel L. Jackson’s ignorant rant
During the 2008 Presidential campaign, there was a lot of discussion about how accepting white voters would be of a black candidate. Would Barack Obama lose because of racism among white Americans? Well, obviously he didn’t. It looks like Americans aren’t as racist as many liberals would have you believe.
Of course, many in the media would never look at the opposite being true. Would black voters be more likely to vote for Barack Obama because he was black? I don’t recall much attention being paid to that question in 2008. If it were addressed, I’m pretty sure it would have been seen as less important than how white voters would react.

The Les Infedeles poster controversy
I saw a headline concerning an uproar over a controversial movie poster (pictured above). The movie poster for Les Infideles, shows a man standing between a woman’s legs, while her feet are near his head. Not only wasn’t I offended, but I couldn’t see why anyone would be bothered by it.
Stephane Martin of the ARPP, France’s advertising regulator, asked that the posters be removed because they,
“present a degrading image of women, because in both cases you do not see the woman’s face…. This is certainly presenting an image of women as objects, in this case sexual objects,”

Donald Trump’s endorsement: Who cares?
Today, Donald Trump announced that he will be endorsing Mitt Romney for President. Some were surprised that Trump didn’t choose Gingrich, and right up until the announcement, there was suspense over what he would announce. For the life of me, I can’t understand why anyone would care who Trump endorsed.
Donald Trump is little more than a reality star. Does anyone care what the cast members of Survivor, Big Brother, or American Idol think about the election?

Michele Bachmann has support of labor unions?
Does anyone know if Michele Bachmann is being supported by the major labor unions? I wouldn’t have thought so, but according to actor Alec Baldwin, it appears that way. Here are some quotes from his Twitter feed:
“Fear Bachman bc she is raising so much money,” Baldwin tweeted. “Anyone that inarticulate and full of shit who is raising money that fast…is beholden to some mighty thuggish interests.”
Thuggish interests? Unions were the first ones who came to my mind. Although, it could be another group of formerly liberal constituents. What about the New Black Panther Party? They’re pretty Thuggish.
At any rate, if Bachmann begins appealing to the natural thug base of the Democrats and Barack Obama, she could end up walking away with the Presidency. » read more

Group protests U2′s tax avoidance in Glastonbury
It’s no secret that Bono and his U2 band mates aren’t fans of high taxes. Most people aren’t, but U2, and Bono in particular, are quite possibly the biggest hypocrites around. They like to champion causes requiring taxpayer dollars, but don’t like to actually contribute the money that would finance that spending.
Last night, at the band’s Glastonbury performance, a group called Art Uncut hoisted a large balloon that read, “U pay your taxes 2.” Of course, security shut that down quickly, since it isn’t permissible to expose U2′s charade. » read more

U2 and Bono: Not a fan of high taxes
Some people in Ireland are criticizing U2 and Bono for avoiding taxes in Ireland by moving operations to neighboring countries, where tax rates are lower. The group is planning on staging a very visible protest at an upcoming show to bring attention to the band’s actions.
Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with U2′s actions. What some people forget is that besides being a band, U2 is a business. In order to maximize profits, you need to analyze your expenses and keep them down. Finding a place with a favorable tax climate makes perfect sense. The problems arise when you look at the band’s actions over the years and realize what hypocrites they are. » read more

Aren’t there better options than Perez Hilton?
I just visited Alexa.com to check out the ranking for PerezHilton.com. For those of you who don’t know, Alexa provides traffic rankings for websites. Think of it as Neilsen ratings for websites. Anyway, after checking the rankings, I saw some disappointing statistics. Out of the tens of millions of websites in the world, PerezHilton.com is ranked 784th in the world, and 264th in the United States.
Why do I bring this up? Last night, Serene Branson of CBS2 was reporting live from the Grammy Awards, when her speech suddenly started to deteriorate and turn to gibberish. Some have speculated that her speech problems looked like the symptoms of a stroke. » read more

Esperanza Spalding and Lady Gaga: What’s right and wrong about music
What does a pop star do to distract people from the fact that their music is bland an uninspiring? They use gimmicks, stunts, props, and other nonsense to distract the sheep in the audience. If you need an example, look no further than Lady Gaga’s arrival and performance at the Grammy Awards.
Lady Gaga arrived in a translucent egg that was carried by four men. One of her assistants claimed she was “in an embryonic stage and won’t be born until the performance.” If you think I’m wrong, think about it: What is everyone talking about? Are they talking about her performance, or the the egg womb and the prosthetic shoulders? I rest my case. » read more

Lindsay Lohan needs to do time if found guilty
Lindsay Lohan has been charged with grand theft for allegedly stealing a $2,500 necklace from a jewelry store. I mention this because if she is found guilty, she needs to do some serious time. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of seeing celebrities skate by with a slap on the wrist. A couple of days in the county jail aren’t enough.
Now for some pictures of Lindsay Lohan before she began engaging in criminal activities and self-destructive behavior:

Comedy Central’s decision to censor South Park was cowardly

| South Park Death Threats | ||||

Have you been following the “South Park” situation? If you haven’t, here’s a quick summary: The creators portrayed the Prophet Muhammad in a bear suit, which angered a Muslim group. On their website, the group posted pictures of Theo Van Gogh, who was murdered after one of his films offended some Muslims. The site hints that a similar fate may await “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker.
“South Park” makes jokes about everyone, and they’re usually quite funny while they’re doing it. As a matter of fact, Jesus has a recurring role on the show! As far as I know, no one has threatened the creators over their portrayal of Jesus, and no Christian groups have threatened death. » read more

“Law & Order’s” lies
On a recent episode of “Law & Order,” the show’s liberal bias was once again on display. In an episode which dealt with illegal immigration, a character made this assertion:
“Limbaugh, Beck, O’Reilly, all of ‘em, they are like a cancer spreading ignorance and hate…They’ve convinced folks that immigrants are the problem, not corporations that fail to pay a living wage or a broken health care system…”
So, if you are to believe Dick Wolfe and those on the “Law & Order” team, anyone who believes the United States has the right to determine who can or cannot enter the country is spreading ignorance and hate. If you mention that illegal aliens are taking jobs and bringing down wages, you’re spreading ignorance and hate. » read more

Tiger Woods doesn’t owe us an apology
It bothers me when people get wrapped up in the private lives of celebrities, and it bothers me almost as much when these celebrities feel the need to issue an apology. Tiger Woods is the latest celebrity to fall into this trap. He released this statement yesterday:
I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.
Although I am a well-known person and have made my career as a professional athlete, I have been dismayed to realize the full extent of what tabloid scrutiny really means. For the last week, my family and I have been hounded to expose intimate details of our personal lives. The stories in particular that physical violence played any role in the car accident were utterly false and malicious. Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect. » read more

Michael Moore warns Barack Obama about ‘the haters’
One of the most annoying, nauseating people around is director Michael Moore. On the day before Barack Obama is set to announce his plans for Afghanistan, we have Michael Moore encouraging the President to ignore “the haters.”
According to Michael Moore, Obama is trying to satisfy the “tea baggers,” and will essentially be betraying the trust placed in him by those who voted for him. I’m not sure if Michael Moore realizes this, but does he know that Osama Bin Laden was operating from Afghanistan? Does he know that if the U.S. were to depart, the country would become even more chaotic and controlled by terrorists? » read more
