Besides that, he admits to exchanging photos with six women over the past three years. Weiner also said he won’t resign.

This story seemed fishy from the beginnning. First, the picture surfaces, and he claims he was hacked but refuses to involve the authorities. Next he said the picture “could” be of him. Now that Other women have come forward, he feels its time to tell the truth. Of course, now he says he’s telling the truth. Are there any other facts out there that he forgot to mention? He wasn’t honest before, so why should anyone believe him now?

Weiner won’t resign, and I don’t think he should. Considering that he is married and a member of Congress, I think most people would agree that he did a stupid thing. Should doing a stupid thing disqualify you from public office? If it did, there wouldn’t be many names on the ballot.

Let’s keep the Weiner jokes coming, and feel free to criticize him for being a liar. As for any feelings of outrage or betrayal, get a life. The only person who should be outraged is his wife

The latest Rasmussen Poll finds that 23% of Americans strongly approve of the job Barack Obama is doing, while 44% strongly disapprove. Rasmussen also points out that the President’s approval rating drops when he pushes the health care bill. I’m not an expert, but do you think that means that most people are against the current health care reform bill? Not surprisingly, Rasmussen also found that 50% of Americans are less likely to vote for a Congressmen who supports health care reform.

It looks like conservatives won’t have to worry about throwing out the leftists in 2010 and 2012. They’re going to take care of that all by themselves. I just hope they don’t wreck the place too much before then.

Paul and Mitchell were also among sponsors of a bill which will do the same in 2010. This is a great idea, but why not go further?

Federal employee salaries are rising at a staggering rate. Since 2007, the number of employees earning over $100,000 hasveincreased by 46%, while those earning more than $150,000 have increased by 119%, and those earning more than $170,000 have increased by 93%. Just in case you were wondering, the average salary of a federal government employee is $71,206, compared to just $40,331 in the private sector. Why the huge disparity?

If Congress is ever going to get serious about reducing the deficit, it must cut spending and reduce costs. One place it needs to look are labor costs. Some might argue that any savings are small in comparison to trillion dollar deficits and the National Debt. As a percentage, there is some truth to that, but in absolute dollars, the savings could be substantial. If Congress and Barack Obama ever get serious about balancing the budget, labor costs will have to be a part of any savings plan.

In the space of about 24 hours, New York Congressional candidate Dede Scozzafava went from being considered a selfless hero for dropping out of the NY23 race, to a traitor for then turning around to endorse Democratic candidate Bill Owens. Based on her actions, Ms. Scozzafava should seriously consider leaving the Republican party.

It’s understandable that Ms. Scozzafava wouldn’t want to endorse Conservative candidate Douglas Hoffman, due to their differing political beliefs, but the same should be true of Bill Owens. I’m one of those rare people who seems to think a political pary in a two-party system needs to have a wide umbrella with some core issues that bring people together. One of those core issues should be increasing the number of GOP House seats to help Republicans gain control of the House and attempt to bring fiscal restraint. By offering an endorsement ot Bill Owens, Ms. Scozzafava has offered her support to Nancy Pelosi. That is unacceptable. Unlike other Republicans who quickly rushed to Hoffman’s side, she would have been better served by staying neutral and quietly casting her vote on election day. Instead, she betrays her party.

We could be at the beginning of an exciting time for the Republican party. Republican candidates seem to have a strong chance of winning gubernatorial races in both Virginia and New Jersey, along with a Conservative candidate in NY23. Unfortunately, it looks like there could be the makings of a civil war among conservative/GOP voters. For those conservatives who don’t care, ask yourself this question: Will a divided GOP be able to win back control of the House and Senate, and defeat Barack Obama in 2012? As long as we continue to marginalize moderate Republicans, and members lose their identification with the party, our chances seem slim.

I was surprised to hear about Dede Scozzafava’s decision to suspend her campaign for a Congressional seat in New York’s 23rd district. Since she is currently running third in the polls, her chances of winning were slim, and the chances of splitting Republican votes and handing them to the Democrat were likely. It’s important to pick up as many seats as possible in order to eventually remove Nancy Pelosi from power. Ms. Scozzafava realized that, and I commend her for her selfless decision. With that said, I’m also a bit worried.

While Dede Scozzafava’s decision will likely lead to greater unity for Conservative candidate Douglas Hoffman, it certainly doesn’t bode well for moderate Republicans in general. I’ve never been a big fan of the two party system, since it essentially forces people to pick the side that is closest, rather than a side that is close. That results in a certain ideological heterogeneity that you wouldn’t find in a multiparty system. Unfortunately, it seems that some on the far right don’t seem to get this, and have a tendency to lash out at moderates the same way they would at Nancy Pelosi. It’s similar to a “with us or against us” mindset.

I’m a registered Republican who is a staunch supporter of limited government. I strongly support low taxes, reduced spending, and less bureaucracy. On the flip side, I’m pro-choice, support gay marriage, and the decriminalization of marijuana. If I were running for Congress, I’d probably have social conservatives from all over the country rooting for my political demise. Why? Because I’m ideologically consistent. I truly support limited government, not only in fiscal matters, but also those of a personal nature. Just like excessive taxation is an impediment to liberty, the same is true of a government which attempts to control our personal decisions.

For many, there seems to be a disconnect. They want limited government, but they also want government to control and legislate morality. I respect socially conservative views, and in many ways, lead my own life in that fashion. With that said, it isn’t the government’s role to impose these views on the citizenry. It is the responsibility of families, and most importantly, the individual.

We’re at a point where our country is facing many challenges: The remnants of an economic crisis, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, health-care reform, cap-and-trade legislation, and much more. There’s no doubt that Congress has a full plate. That’s why it’s shocking to find out that they wasted time holding a hearing to discuss professional football.

I enjoy watching football, and it’s certainly a big business, but should Congress be wasting its time discussing the incidence of head injuries in the league? If there is some occupational hazard in the league, shouldn’t that be investigated by OSHA? They come to my place of employment periodically to evaluate safety, why not handle issues with professional sports?

The only useful thing to arise from today’s hearing was Maxine Water’s threat to lift the NFL’s anti-trust exemption. That’s a great idea, but if I remember correctly, only MLB has a full antitrust exemption, which Congress should end. They’re businesses and should be treated as any other businesses. Plus, maybe it will remove an excuse for Congress to take a day off from work to tinker with a child’s game.

As the country continues to watch the health-care debate, it’s common to hear liberals talk about the right to “quality, affordable health-care”. I agree with them on the importance of having health insurance, and the need for affordability. What I disagree with is the mechanisms being proposed for obtaining coverage and making it “affordable”.

With democrats in power, I know it’s fashionable to demonize anyone looking to make a profit. This is especially true of companies who make money selling health insurance. After all, good health insurance could be the difference between life and death. It’s something everyone should have. The problem is that some short-sighted people don’t value it until they need it.

Many people who don’t have health insurance know it’s important and they want it, but they don’t want to pay for it. They might spend money on satellite television, cable, cigarettes, expensive clothes, vacations, dinners out, or other frivolous things. These individuals could certainly restructure their spending, but that wouldn’t be fun. Would you rather spend a few thousand dollars on a trip to Cancun, or some boring insurance policy you might not need?

That’s really one of my big problems with health-care reform. As someone who pays a substantial amount annually, I don’t see why I should pay for someone else’s health-care in addition to my own. Congress has suggested many ways to pay for these subsidies: Taxes on the wealthy, a soda tax, taxing “Cadillac” health plans, and even taxing health benefits. All this for people who make poor decisions or refuse to prioritize their spending.

I also wonder if the more liberal members of Congress listen to themselves when they speak. We hear them talk about how a public option is necessary in order to assure competition. This is true, but they have the details wrong. Liberals want a public option which will offer lower prices than health insurance companies. This will cause consumers to buy insurance through the public option and will eventually bankrupt private companies. Once this happens, guess what we have: A single payer system. Welcome to socialized medicine! I hope you don’t mind waiting two years for your next surgery.

Liberals are correct about the need for competition, but this competition needs to come from private industry, not the government. Companies will not be able to compete with the government, especially if a public option has the ability to receive unlimited subsidies. Many states only have two or three private options for health insurance. If Congress would open up competition by encouraging insurers to sell beyond state lines, the competition problem would likely be solved, and with more competition, we’ll see lower prices.

Speaking of prices, what happened to tort reform? I know Democrats receive lots of campaign contributions from trial lawyers, but if they care about affordable health insurance as much as they claim, shouldn’t they address this issue? Failing to do so seems suspect to me.

Make no mistake, a public option is an under-handed way of steering the country toward socialized medicine. If a public option passes, the question isn’t if, but when a single-payer system will be implemented. This has been there goal all along, and it is getting closer to happening.
