New York Times reporter Jose Antonio Vargas admits to being an illegal alien

Jose Antonio Vargas of the New York Times

Jose Antonio Vargas of the New York Times

Jose Antonio Vargas, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter for the New York Times, has admitted that he is an illegal alien. In his story, Vargas talks about how he came to the United States illegally 18 years ago when he was 12. He also details all the illegal and unethical things he and his family have done to stay here.

From what I’ve read, Jose Antonio Vargas is an intelligent, hard-working individual who has accomplished a great deal in his 30 years. He and his family have also broken immigration laws and committed document fraud, and now he is going public with his crimes. This might not be a popular sentiment, but the government needs to act. If it doesn’t, what kind of message is it sending? » read more

Texas state senator Chris Harris: ‘He needs to be speaking English’

I’d like to thank Texas state senator Chris Harris for saying what many people were probably thinking, but were afraid to vocalize due to political correctness. While Antolin Aguirre was testifying against a bill in Spanish, he mentioned through an interpreter that he came to the United States 23 years ago. At that point, Chris Harris interupted.

“It is insulting to us. It is very insulting. And if he knows English, he needs to be speaking in English.”

Senator Harris will undoubtedly receive criticism from liberals and supporters of illegal immigration, but he is absolutely correct. How can someone move to a country, live there for 23 years, and still not be comfortable with the language? Even worse is the expectation that government, and society in general, are expected to accommodate their laziness and lack of identification with their country. » read more

Senator Joe Arpaio?

Maricopa COunty Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Maricopa COunty Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Senator Joe Arpaio? It has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? Following the news that Arizona Senator John Kyl is stepping down, a poll was conducted to find out who has the most support. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio led with 21%, followed by Rep. Jeff Flake with 16.8%, and J.D. Hayworth with 16.6%.

This poll should be taken with a grain of salt, since John Kyl just announced that he isn’t running for re-election, the election is almost 2 years away, and there were a large number of undecided voters. Still, it has to be encouraging for Joe Arpaio to see his name at the top of the list. » read more

Nicolas Sarkozy is right about multiculturalism

French Presiden Nicolas Sarkozy

French Presiden Nicolas Sarkozy

“It’s a failure,” Sarkozy said of multiculturalism. “The truth is that, in all our democracies, we’ve been too concerned about the identity of the new arrivals and not enough about the identity of the country receiving them.”

I couldn’t agree more. Think about it: By allowing, and often encouraging immigrants to keep their own culture at the cost of assimilation, aren’t we weakening our national identity? If millions of immigrants take up residence in a country, consider themselves to be separate, and raise children to believe the same, how will that country survive? How will its people exist without a shared identity? » read more

Texas to consider an “Arizona-style” illegal immigration law

Here’s a bit of good news: Texas State Rep. Debbie Riddle has sponsored an “Arizona-style” law to deal with illegal immigration. With large Republican majorities in the House and Senate, this bill might actually have a chance of passing. Although, from what I’ve read in the past, Governor Rick Perry doesn’t seem anxious to force illegal aliens to obey our laws.

Not surprisingly, those on the loony left are already preparing their talking points. Texas State Rep. Mike Villarreal makes this poor point:

“All of the studies have calculated a net positive to our economy,” Villarreal said. “Even considering any services which we provide to our own citizens that they may take advantage of.”

More evidence of the Obama Administration’s disconnect

If you needed more proof about the Obama Administration’s disconnect from the average American, here it is: The State Department wrote a report to the United Nation’s human rights commissioner detailing the federal government’s attempt to derail Arizona’s immigration law.

Yes, you read that correctly. Essentially, the federal government is categorizing a state law as a human rights abuse, and detailing how they plan to stop it with court challenges. Of course, they probably don’t mention that it merely codifies federal law at the state level, and has the support of an overwhelming majority of Americans. Those facts were conveniently not mentioned in order to make us better fit in with the world community that Barry Obama is constantly trying to appease with apologies. » read more

Arizona’s illegal immigration law is already working

It appears that the Arizona law created to reduce illegal immigration is working…and it hasn’t gone into effect yet! This is great news for Arizona, which will likely start seeing fewer law-breakers within its borders over the coming weeks.

Some may argue that this will just push illegal aliens into neighboring states. This is true, which is why other states need to pass laws which make life difficult for those who ignore our laws. So, where will all these people go? I have a few ideas.

After the law was passed, San Francisco and Los Angeles both announced boycotts against Arizona. Perhaps those cities would be good destinations for illegal aliens. After all, these cities don’t mind paying almost $15,000 per year to educate each of their children, or the strain they will place on their city. As a matter of fact, I often hear advocates of illegal immigration and open borders talk about how illegal aliens add much more to their community than they take. If that’s true, we would expect to see an economic renaissance in those cities. Hopefully, it will happen and we will see the true affect of illegal immigration.

Felipe Calderone wants to protect the rights of “migrants”

Does Mexican President Felipe Calderone ever listen to himself speak? The latest bit of nonsense comes after a 15 year old Mexican citizen was shot and killed by U.S. border patrol agents. The boy’s group came across the border and some were detained. When this happened, they began hurling rocks at agents, who needed to defend themelves.

The group came into the United States illegally, then started assaulting federal agents. Despite this, Felipe Calderone says Mexico “will use all resources available to protect the rights of Mexican migrants.” » read more

Barack Obama thinks illegal immigration is funny

While gangs, kidnapping, and drug trafficking are running rampant in Arizona, Barack Obama is cracking jokes. Do you still wonder why illegal immigration is such a problem? Mr. Obama and his fellow leftists should just come out and advocate an open borders policy once and for all. After all, his administration is acting like it is already our policy.

Hypocrisy: Mexico criticized for mistreatment of migrants

Mexico's treatment of migrants has been criticized by Amnesty International

Mexico's treatment of migrants has been criticized by Amnesty International

The Mexican government has criticized Arizona for passing a law which would essentially enforce federal immigration laws. Mexico, which often assists its huddled masses in escaping its economic wasteland for the promise to be found in the United States, lacks credibility on the issue. Rather than criticizing its neighbor to the north, it should focus on the serious problems within its own borders.

Amnesty International has referred to Mexico’s treatment of migrants as “a human rights crisis“. According to Amnesty International, many migrants are are beaten, raped or murdered. For those who are victimized, there isn’t much recourse. Here’s an excerpt from Article 67 of Mexico’s population law: » read more

Michael Bloomberg, national suicide, and illegal aliens

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg doesn’t like the immigration law passed by Arizona. Here are some of his comments on the law:

“This is not good for the country. I don’t agree with it,” he said. “We love immigrants here.”

“We have to get real about the 12 million undocumented here,” the mayor said. “We’re not going to deport them. Give them permanent status. Don’t make them citizens unless they can qualify, but give them permanent status and let’s get on with this.”

Illegal aliens and the 2010 census

Five states poised to add a congressional seat may end up losing out because of poor participation rates in the 2010 census. New York, Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California are all lagging, and might have quite a bit to lose. As you probably know, the Census helps determine representation in the House and federal funding.

As I looked at the list, I noticed that 3 of the states are along the Mexican border and have a large number of illegal aliens entering the state. Well, it looks like New York and Florida are in the same boat. It turns out that California (1), Texas (2), New York (3), Florida (5), and Arizona (6) make up five out of the top six states with the most illegal aliens. Is this merely a coincidence? Could some other variable be at work? That’s certainly possible, but you must admit that it is some coincidence. » read more

Thank you Jan Brewer

I’d like to take a moment to thank Arizona Governor Jan Brewer for signing a bill into law which will greatly reduce the number of illegal aliens entering the United States along the Mexican border. The law will make it a crime to be in the United States illegally, and will allow police officers to request individuals to prove citizenship. Of course, there are many detractors with their own agendas who don’t care about the destruction caused by illegal aliens.

You would expect to hear about some local groups criticizing the law, but criticism is coming from some unusual places. Namely, the Mexican and Guatemalan governments. I guess they’re afraid their citizens won’t be allowed to trespass into the U.S., steal American jobs, then send remittances back home. What will Mexico do without all the money its citizen invaders send home? They’ll have to actually work on trying to improve their country so their citizens want to stay. » read more

One more reason to support J.D. Hayworth over John McCain

Senator John McCain is facing a tough primary this year. Hopefully, he will lose to J.D. Hayworth, who is more concerned with doing the right thing, than trying to be everything to everyone. The latest example of McCain’s lack of political courage is his reluctance to take a stand on a bill in Arizona which would make it a crime for illegal aliens to be present in the state, and for people to transport or employ them. J.D. Hayworth has come out in favor of the bill.

John McCain loves to point out the time he spent fighting for the United States, along with his time as a P.O.W. That’s why I find it shocking that he would refuse comment on the bill and brush off questions about his opinion by saying it’s a “state issue.” He’s certainly correct, but as a long-time citizen of that state, he has every right to comment on it, and the voters have every right to know where he stands on the issue. Of course, I can probably guess where he stands.

We’re talking about a man who teamed up with the Bush administration on a bill that would have provided a path to citizenship granted amnesty to millions of people who ignored our laws and deserve to be categorized as criminals. John McCain deserves to lose in 2010, and I’m confident he will.

Arizona is moving in the right direction on illegal immigration

Legislators in Arizona are working on a bill which would make it a crime for illegal aliens to be present in the state. It would also make it a crime to transport or employ an illegal alien. Similar bills have passed the legislature before, but were vetoed by former Governor Janet Napolitano, who obviously has an affinity for those who disregard our laws.

This is exactly the type of law more states should enact. Bleeding heart liberals who look at the United States as the world’s homeless shelter seem to ignore the convenient fact that illegal aliens are breaking federal laws and trespassing. In the words of Sen. Russell Pearce:

“When you come to America you must have a permission slip, period,” said state Sen. Russell Pearce, the Mesa Republican who sponsored the bill. “You can’t break into my country, just like you can’t break into my house.”

Well said Senator.

Obamacare: Illegal aliens won’t receive health care…yet

Have you read the 3,000 page health care bill yet? I haven’t read the entire thing, but I have read a portion of the bill. I’m glad to say that Obamacare will not allow illegal aliens to receive health care or purchase insurance through exchanges. Of course, the fight isn’t over.

The next step is to keep our eyes on the immigration reform bill. Obamacare won’t provide health insurance for illegal aliens, but it will provide help for legal immigrants. If the 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens in the United States receive amnesty, won’t that make them legal? Won’t they then be eligible for subsidized health care? It certainly looks that way to me. » read more

Thank you, Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Arizona Sherrif Joe Arpaio

Arizona Sherrif Joe Arpaio

We need more people like Sheriff Joe Arpaio:

PHOENIX – The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona has launched a two-day, countywide crime and immigration sweep that authorities say will focus on drop houses, drug violators and human smuggling vehicles.

Four hundred deputies and volunteer posse members are taking part in the patrols. The sweep, which began Thursday, is Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s 14th since early 2008.

During the sweeps, deputies flood an area of a city — in some cases heavily Latino areas — to seek out traffic violators and arrest other alleged lawbreakers. » read more

Catholic bishops are right on abortion, wrong on illegal immigration

It isn’t often I agree with Catholic bishops, but we’re on the same page when it comes to the health care bill…sort of. In a letter to Congress, the bishops implored representatives not to support a bill that they say will allow public money to be used for abortions.

I’m strongly pro-choice, but I don’t want a dime of taxpayer money spent on abortions, except in the cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. If one of these conditions doesn’t exist, then the abortion is an elective procedure used to remedy irresponsible behavior. What’s next, allowing people to get taxpayer funded liposuction because because they’re too lazy to exercise and eat right? » read more

How do you feel about combining comprehensive immigration reform and an economic stimulus bill?

If you read this blog regularly, you might remember how I critiqued the immigration bill being sponsored by Lindsey Graham and Chuck Schumer. As you might recall, I didn’t like it, and I suggested some issues that need to be addressed in an effective immigration bill. Unfortunately, I don’t think my ideas went far enough.

The exact number of illegal aliens in the United States isn’t known, but I’ve heard estimates ranging between 12 million and 20 million. I also read that illegal aliens have around 8 million jobs. This made me think: What if we could combine a second economic stimulus that would put people to work, while addressing immigration reform? » read more

David Axelrod seems fine with illegal aliens receiving health care

In yet another bit of hypocrisy, Barack Obama’s senior adviser, David Axelrod went on CNN’s “State of the Union” to discuss the health care bill. During his appearance, he criticized addressing illegal immigration and abortion in the health care bill:

“The president’s view is that this is not the vehicle to address immigration issues…this is not the place for this, this is not the place to resolve disputes over abortion,” he said. “I believe that as the week goes on, these issues will clarify themselves…We have to resolve the larger questions, which is the status of undocumented workers…we can’t resolve it within the context of this debate.”

Axelrod’s words might have had some credibility if the health care bill weren’t being used to expand the federal government’s role in higher education. Student loans have nothing to do with health care, yet they are part of the debate. On the other hand, the debates surrounding illegal immigration and abortion concern who is eligible for benefits and what procedures are covered. The last time I checked, those were both central issues that would need to be discussed in any reform plan.

In regards to the undocumented workers illegal aliens David Axelrod referred to, his position is a harbinger of things to come. By ignoring any prohibition on illegal aliens, he’s essentially hoping to extend benefits to the law-breakers. Maybe I’m wrong, but wouldn’t health care costs be reduced if we deported the 12 million or so illegal aliens who burden the United states financially?
