Just when you think Barack Obama can’t sink any lower, he manages to break another depth record. This time, he apologized to Afghanistan’s President, Hamid Karzai, for accidentally disposing of copies of the Koran in an inappropriate fashion. This action led to massive protests in Afghanistan, along with the Taliban calling for death to America (what a shock!).

On any day, the apology would bother me, but on this day in particular, it angers me. An Afghan soldier shot six American soldiers, killing two. At this time, I haven’t heard about any apologies from Hamid Karzai, yet we have an apology from Barack Obama for throwing books away incorrectly, and in the past, an apology from George W. Bush for a sniper who shot a Koran. Maybe it’s me, but I think double murder of two soldiers is a serious matter.

So far, the only Presidential candidate to comment on the Apologizer-in-Chief was Newt Gingrich. “It is an outrage that on the day an Afghan soldier murders two American troops, Pres. Obama is the one apologizing,” said Gingrich.

In the general election, Obama’s apology needs to be brought up, and he needs to answer for it. I’d be particularly interested to find out his thoughts on the absence of an apology from Hamid Karzai

No apology yet from Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

What would bother me is an exaggeration of his beliefs to gain election.

Personally, I’m sick of politicians discussing God and talking about how important religion is in their lives. If it really is, then that’s great, but it is not relevant to holding public office. I look forward to the day when a candidate responds to a question about their personal religious views by saying it isn’t part of their life. Some might be appalled by that, and to them, I ask why?

As you’ve probably heard, there are plans in the works to build a 15 story Muslim community center near Ground Zero. The location is about two blocks from the former site of the Twin Towers, and would include a mosque, classroom space, and other amenities for the community. Some have compared it to a Jewish community center or a YMCA, which sounds correct on a superficial level. Of course, there are differences.

Let me begin by stating that Muslims have every legal right to build a mosque at that location. As long as all local zoning laws are satisfied, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be built. Yet, while this building would seem to serve a function similar to that of a Jewish community center or a YMCA, only a fool can’t see the difference.

On September 11th, 2001, the United States was attacked. The nineteen terrorists were Muslims, they were members of Al Qaeda, which is an Islamic terrorist group, and if I remember correctly, there were several news reports of widespread celebrations in the MIddle East when news of the attack broke. I know the perpetrators were extremists, and I’m certainly no theologian, but it’s rather obvious that there is a propensity toward violence in Islam that is not found in Judaism or Christianity. To deny this is disingenuous.

Even if you only agree with part of my argument, you would probably point out that the Ground Zero Mosque will be run by Feisal Abdul Rauf, a moderate Imam. Of course, this isn’t true. Shortly after 9/11, he blamed the United States for being an “accessory” who brought on the 9/11 attacks. By the way, he also says the United States has more blood on its hands than Al Qaeda. Remember, this is someone referred to as a moderate Muslim.

I would prefer to see the mosque built somewhere else. If all legal requirements are met, then there is no reason why it shouldn’t be allowed to be built. Of course, mosque supporters shouldn’t be surprised when a majority of Americans oppose a mosque on this particular site. 3,000 Americans were killed by 19 Muslims, who were backed by an Islamic terrorist organization, then widely celebrated in the Middle East. If the mosque is built, we don’t need to like it, and we certainly don’t need to pretend we are fine with it.

In a recent interview, singer Sting says Barack Obama is “sent from God.” The strangest part is Sting’s lack of rationale for such a comment. Here’s his best shot: “I can’t think of any be (sic) better qualified because of his background, his education, particularly in regard to Islam.” Let’s take a closer look at this statement.

Barack Obama is definitely well-educated, having received a law degree from Harvard. Although, that doesn’t really set him apart from other Presidents. Bill Clinton also had a law degree and attended Oxford, while George W. Bush received an MBA from Harvard. Next, we have his background. I’m not sure what this is a reference to, so I’ll leave it alone. To be honest, I don’t think Sting knew what he was referring to. Finally, he mentions knowledge/background in regards to Islam. Since when is a background in Islam a qualifier to be President of the United States?

What I find funny is that liberals got all worked up whenever Islam was mentioned during the campaign. Even the mere mention of his middle name, Hussein, was enough to elicit complaints. Democrats didn’t mind us mentioning “Jefferson” while Bill Clinton was President, so why were they so touchy over “Hussein?” Of course, Barack Obama also played down any link to Islam. Well, until it wasn’t useful any more. If you remember his speech in Egypt, then you remember how he spoke fondly of America’s link to Islam, as well as his own personal link. Does that mean it isn’t considered an insult to call him Barack Hussein Obama?

Sting’s opinion isn’t important in the grand scheme of things, but it is interesting. He tries to point to the qualities that make Barack Obama the perfect President, but there’s nothing concrete. If you read into the comment, Sting just seems to be thrilled that someone linked to Islam is President. I’m not sure how this would help with handling two wars, a financial crisis, and a restructuring of our health-care system, but Sting appears to think it is pertinent. The scary part is that he is not alone. Many of the people who put Barack Obama on a pedestal do so without knowing exactly why. They just feel they should.
