People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has said and done some stupid things over the years, but their latest stunt may have topped them all. The organization filed a lawsuit against Sea World, charging that the park is violating the 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution by “enslaving” whales.

“It’s a new frontier in civil rights,” said Jeff Kerr, PETA general counsel, who described the hearing as a “historic day.”

“Slavery does not depend on the species of the slave any more than it depends on race, gender or ethnicity,” he argued. “Coercion, degradation and subjugation characterize slavery and these orcas have endured all three.”

One would hope that this lawsuit is thrown out quickly, but just imagine what would happen if they won. No more aquariums, zoo’s, circuses, or businesses that “employ” animals.
