I just read a very strange article I wanted to share. It seems that global warming is leading more women in the Phillipines to become prostitutes. Yes, you read correctly!

The article states that 92 million people live in the Phillipines, and the population is expected to exceed 140 million in the next 40 years. Most of these people, approximately 60%, live near the coast. They are depleting the nations resources due to their population growth, which is causing more women to move from fishing to prostitution. I’m not sure if it’s me, but I think I’m missing something.

If the population grows steadily, isn’t a depletion of natural resources expected? Wouldn’t this be exacerbated by a population distribution which puts more strain on coastal rather than inland areas? Aren’t environmentalists who believe this nonsense as intelligent as an amoeba? I say yes to all three questions.

I don’t doubt there is more prostitution in the Phillipines, but by attempting to correlate two unrelated occurences, environmentalists are doing themselves a disservice. Whoever came up with this idea should have taken a statistics class. If they had, they would have learned that correlation doesn’t imply causation.
